Weekend Wanderings: Gold Cup!

If you're hankering for a horse race, but can't get to the Derby this weekend, have no fear. You can see live, steeplechase racing at the Virginia Gold Cup this weekend! It's held at Great Meadow in The Plains, Virginia.

There are several kinds of horse races through the course of the day, as well as Jack Russell Terrier races, a hat contest, vendors for shopping and tailgating galore! Many corporations sponsor tents, but you'll need passes for those areas. You can also purchase car passes or grab a ticket that includes a bus ride from Arlington or DC to the races as well as your entrance fee.

Gold Cup is a wonderful opportunity to get out into the country, see some gorgeous horses, share in the excitement of horse racing and have fun with friends. I've loved seeing the creativity of those tailgating at the rail. Some really go to great lengths to decorate their party areas. And if you love hats like I love hats, you're in for a treat. The hat contests ensure there are plenty of lovely ladies showing off their chapeaus!
